For this month’s breakfast we had a panel of speakers who covered everything you ever needed to know about effectively branding yourself, a product or a company. The panel of speakers gave us a great outline of understanding the implications of the branding world.
Zeke Callanan was the official moderator for the group of speakers who discussed marketing and branding, trademark and the branding process. The first speaker was Chelsea Callanan who taught us about the legal side of branding. Her presentation on Trademark 101 covered everything from the basic trademark terminology to the importance of businesses protecting their brand, product, or service. Chelsea owns her own legal firm called Opticliff ESQ where her husband Zeke and she legally assist with trademark and brand protection for small businesses in the New England area.
The next speaker was a local branding and marketing consultant, Thomas Shimala of More & Co. located in Portland, Maine. He provided some valuable insight about the branding process from start to finish. His presentation consisted of several robust displays of local Maine companies he has helped to rebrand and refocus. Thomas gave us a simple framework to further understand what a success business needs to do to stay focused on its branding image.
Lastly, Thomas Lewis, a local entrepreneur and business owner of his own mobile software, talked about his experience launching a product, what resources he used to protect his product, and what the branding process experience meant to him. At the very end of Thomas’s presentation, Zeke had all the speakers come together to give the audience an example of how a business owner would go about finding the resources and obtaining protection whether they are branding themselves, their product or their company.
