Tools are tools and when it comes down to it, social media is just a new tool for marketing. One of the big things in marketing is you need to have something interesting to say. I lined up two if the more interesting speakers I know: The USM students who are running the Saco Drive-in as a school project and my friend, Saul Colt. Who needs coffee with a lineup like that?
We started the breakfast with Ry Russell, Patric Brophy and Tyler Wells. These three students have taken over running the Saco Drive-in for the season. They impressed everyone who was there. They were smart, interesting, prepared and dressed better than anyone else there (well maybe not Saul). The three are using social media and word of mouth marketing primarily to get the word out about the facelift of the drive-in. They are using Facebook for marketing, market research and customer service. It seems like they are locked and loaded for a great season and it is great to see them getting so much press attention. What started this spur of attention was this article in the Portland Press Herald. We wish them the best of luck and can’t wait to hear how the season goes.
Our second speaker was Saul Colt from Freshbooks. Saul is well know in the marketing and internet world for doing some great marketing campaigns. He has made event specific comic books, opened a banana stand on a tradeshow floor, picked up event attendees on a free sponsored airport shuttle, given out hundreds of hotel room keys and more. His ideas get attention and that attention gets him customers and loyal brand fans.
